I wasn’t expecting myself to suddenly be compelled to post a video, but here I am — I thought perhaps it could be motivating and maybe I could post another one in a little while when I’ve hopefully improved. So far I haven’t been paying much attention to stylistic qualities … getting a jazzy sound, what beat to emphasise. I feel a little ‘floundering’ when it comes to developing melodic ideas in general (sometimes it’s like I’m stuck in thinking about harmony/the right notes which feels a bit robotic/unflowing). I haven’t yet tried transcribing solos or practising licks so perhaps that will help. Part of me feels impatient and doubtful about whether the kind of practise I’m doing is going to make me a better improviser, like how practising licks or chord exercises will come out in the moment of playing a song, but I probably just need to trust a little more…?! I also wanted to say I’m super grateful for all of these lessons and resources and so happy I stumbled across this place. I became interested in jazz about a year ago and in general, as someone with a classical background, improv has felt so foreign and it’s great to slowly learn ways of approaching it.

Oh, and please maybe ignore the beginning and ending haha, there’s not much intention to it.
