Jazz Alto Flute

I'm primarily a saxophone player but I have played flute for years as a doubler and have lately found myself gravitating more towards the flute and wanting to get better at improv on flute. I just joined this forum and I'm excited about working through Adrian's courses. A more specific question: I recently purchased an Alto Flute inspired by some of the great Bossa Nova albums that feature the Alto. I'm wondering how to make the best out of the Alto flute in Jazz. Does Adrian or anyone else has Alto specific suggestions, especially repertoire recommendations? I'm assuming it is better for ballads. Other than some of the Jobim classics, I'm not sure what to focus on with Alto Flute. Perhaps some of the standard Ballads to take advantage fo the more lyrical tone?

I would love to get an alto flute someday! I got to see Jamie Baum and her ensemble last month, and she plays her Altus alto flute a lot. Her recent album is really interesting and features some alto flute https://jamiebaum.bandcamp.com/album/what-times-are-these

Fast Blues in F

Hey everyone! Thought I'd share a solo from a couple of months ago.. you can see here the usefulness of double tonguing when soloing at fast tempos. I hope you enjoy!

I've been working on this a lot over the past few years!

It's fun to try to sing in other intervals than unison or octaves too. If you listen to Hubert Laws' recording of "The Baron", there's a phrase in the intro to the song where he sings along in harmony with the notes he's playing. I was really inspired by this!

I am hoping to record and share more of these duets-in-4-parts this year, but here's one where I've recorded two videos; This is from a 4-part arrangement for voices, SATB; I play the soprano part on the flute while singing bass, and then play the alto part while singing tenor.
